What is Flexera Software announcing?
On 30-Jun-10, Flexera Software is retiring its support for five (5) older operating systems and Firefox browser support for versions lower than 1.5 in FlexNet Connect. Flexera Software will not accept any new sales and will not add any bug fixes for the operating systems and browser versions listed below.
On 30-Jun-10 which operating systems and browser versions are being EOL?
- Firefox versions lower than 1.5
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Sun Solaris 9
- AIX 5.2
- HP-UX versions lower than 11i v2, v3
As of 30-Jun-10 to 29-Jun-11, the following operating system and databases will enter a 12 month EOL program:
Operating Systems:- Sun Solaris 9 (x86 or SPARC)
- Oracle 9i
Why are operating systems, databases and browser versions being retired?
New operating systems, databases and browser versions are launched on a regular basis. To ensure we are supporting the latest operating systems, databases and/or the latest browser versions, older OS, databases and browser versions need to be retired. Additionally, our customers have often upgraded to newer technologies. In order to ensure market responsiveness and to offer our customers support for the latest technologies, Flexera Software must continually re-evaluate its product strategy to focus on product development that maximizes the value we deliver. Occasionally this means restructuring our product direction toward specific platforms or browsers and away from others.
